Business and Executive Coaching for Women
While my coaching approach doesn’t differ at all depending on whether my client is male or female, I do find some work-related themes often recur when I’m meeting with women both as private clients and as corporate clients—for instance, how to:
negotiate strongly and positively to redress inequality
communicate salary and other requirements in a hiring situation
avoid feeling intimidated in a male-dominated work environment
juggle work and family demands
examine feelings around returning to work after a break for children
cope with and avoid feelings of guilt
negotiate limits when pushed unreasonably
work out a fairer distribution of roles and responsibilities outside of work
deal with corporate/personal value clashes
gain clarity around career goals
consider options that are outside the mainstream career path
Of course, I don’t mean to suggest that these issues are pertinent only to women; men too face many of these same issues. However, having and raising children very often takes women out of employment, at least for a short time. This can then cause women to feel differently about how they want to manage their careers in the face of changing personal values and continuing family commitments. Also, as the workplace is still male-dominated, particularly at senior management levels, issues around equality and access to power are often trickier for women to manage.
