Of course, the lack of a reputable accreditation body makes it very difficult for a prospective client, like you, to judge the qualifications and expertise of any given coach. That being the case, I believe, again, that you should trust your instincts—and be smart. Most coaches advertise on the web and offer some details, to a greater or lesser extent, about their background and experience. Some include a photo of themselves. You should absorb all the information available to you and then listen to your heart and your head about whether you think this person appears credible and empathetic. You need to choose someone who you think will really work to understand you, who won’t judge you and who won’t offer patronising quick fixes….unless that’s what you’re after, then good luck! Coaches also work with clients in different ways. The vast majority work with their clients over the phone or by email. I prefer to work with my clients face to face, however, as I find personal interaction helpful in building and maintaining a safe, trusting and productive environment. Most of my clients find me via the web then call me to talk about if and how we could work together. The combination of my website and our brief conversation usually gives my clients confidence they have found someone qualified who they can trust. |
